Simple DIY cat bed from IKEA
In the last weeks, I finally reached the boiling point with the shoe chaos in our hallway. After long search, I ended up buying – surprise, surprise – IKEA KALLAX shelf unit, to replace the old and unfunctional shoe rack. I chose large BULLIG boxes to the shelf, to store the less used shoes out of sight, and attached legs to the shelf so that the most used shoes fit under it. The BULLIG boxes have a beautiful pattern and make the new shoe storage look really pretty.
With this hallway project, I also came up with a new and SUPER simple catification idea and IKEA hack! There is a smaller size available of the BULLIG box, and together with the LEN crib pillow it just happens to make a perfect cat bed 🙂 if you want to make it as easy as possible, IKEA has pillowcases for LEN so you can just use one of those, or then add just a tiny bit of work and sew the pillowcase of your taste.
It might not fit really big cat breeds such as maine coons, but it fits quite large cats, like our almost 6 kg mister in the pictures. This cat bed has a very minimalistic and nordic feel, and would look really nice as a window perch, or on top of a higher book shelf, if your cat has access there. Mine is now in the hallway on top of the new KALLAX shelf, so it becomes a perfect hideaway when there are some jackets hanging above it.
Hope this will inspire you! If you’ve come across good ideas for DIY cat beds, share those in the comments 🙂
